Inflation ‘adds £23bn to annual construction output costs’

  This is the first time annual construction value has surpassed £200 billion, representing a 15% increase in nominal terms over 2021 output values. According to a Barbour ABI analysis of real versus nominal price indices, the value would have been closer to £181 billion if prices had remained at pre-pandemic levels. According to the construction information specialist, price increases are expected to slow in the second half of this year. It does, however, warn that some product lines, such as insulation, which recently increased by 50%, could see double-digit price increases, reports   Construction Journal . “The Bank of England’s decision to raise the base rate to 4% is expected to have a significant impact on the residential sector in 2023, as mortgage holders tighten their belts,” said Barbour ABI chief economist Tom Hall. Jamie Smith and Josh Tongue impress as England Lions draw Sri Lanka in a Test Series

  On day three of the four-day match in Galle, Surrey batsman Smith surpassed Luke Wright’s 91-ball century against New Zealand in 2008/09 by scoring the quickest century by an England Lions batsman. Tongue, a seamer for Worcestershire, finished with a match total of 8-153 after scoring 5-76 in Sri Lanka A’s first innings and 3-77 in their second. After Sri Lanka A was dismissed for 356 runs, Jack Carson of Sussex took 4-94, and the Lions’ second innings ended with a score of 173-7. A three-match one-day series between England Lions and Sri Lanka will be played in Colombo on February 15, 18, and 21.
